IWC Schaffhausen supports the environmental adventurer David de Rothschild and his Plastiki expedition
While our environment is constantly deteriorating, the founder of the organization Adventure Ecology David de Rothschild and the watchmaking company IWC Schaffhausen actively contribute to environmental protection. IWC is supporting the Plastiki Expedition, organized by David de Rothschild, member of a wealthy British banking family.
This summer, Adventure Ecology head, along with a team of leading scientists, sailors, and adventurers, will make a 10,000-mile voyage across the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco to Sydney. They will sail in a unique 60-foot catamaran made of plastic bottles and recycled waste products. The journey will be made to attract attention to the fact that waste can be used as an effective resource.
With the support of the official partner of the expedition IWC Schaffhausen, David de Rothschild and his organization want to increase global awareness of the consequences of human behaviour on nature and nurture the consciousness of people. “Saving our planet is going to be one of the century’s greatest and most challenging adventures,” believes Adventure Ecology founder.
IWC is introducing a limited “Adventure Ecology” edition of its Ingenieur Automatic Mission Earth to honour the latest expedition of Adventure Ecology. The stainless steel watch makes part the IWC watch collection which is considered to be “expedition-proof”. It means that the watch can endure the most extreme conditions during the 4-month Plastiki mission. The timepiece passed more than 30 tests, including climate tests at temperatures between –20°C and +70°C, varying humidity levels up to 95 %, long-term corrosion tests on the case, strap and seals in an aggressive solution of water, salt and chlorine, shock tests, multiple water-resistance tests up to 12 bar for each watch, and magnetic field tests.
The watch with a newly developed and robust case is powered by a specially designed automatic 80110 calibre movement with a Pellaton winding mechanism and shock absorbing system. A soft iron inner case makes it possible to resist extreme magnetic fields up to 80,000 A/m. Thanks to the screw-in back cover, antireflective sapphire glass, side protection of the screw-in crown and water-resistance to 12 bar, the watch is especially sturdy and can withstand all weather and environmental conditions.
The relation of the watch to the expedition is visible in the design of the blue dial with orange markers. Another feature linking it to the expedition is the engraving of Adventure Ecology’s logo on the back cover. The environmentally friendly packaging of the watch is consistent with the environmental goal of the mission.
Replica IWC watches, along with replica chronographs of other leading brands, are available at our site. These reliable quality timepieces look exactly as the real watches and have an advantage which the original models lack – they are sold at a reasonable price.
