Stainless steel became one of the main, or to be precise one of most popular materials for watches in 1990-s. Stainless steel is a very reliable material. Watch makers perfectly know how to work with it. In order to produce watches that at least reminded of jewelry timepieces, watch makers decorated their stainless steel watches with diamonds, as a rule with white ones that matched the steel. The greatest success in this field was achieved by Chopard who released tons of stainless steel Happy Diamonds models with little white diamonds.
As 2000-s began, stainless steel was no more popular. It was replaced with traditional precious metals (first of all with pink gold that became the main precious metals) and new flanged ceramic and titan. As soon as the period of various PVD and DLS began, stainless steel was about to disappear.
However, in 2009 the inexpensive stainless steel watches again got in fashion. Exactly these watches open new lineups. The first brand to re-introduce stainless steel was Bvlgari with its new Bvlgari sotirio lineup. The new collection combined traditionalism and modernity of design that contributed to great stylishness of the collection.
In commemoration of the 125th anniversary of the brand Bvlgari released a new collection dedicated to its founder – Sotirio Bvlgari. Specially for this event a unique design was developed. Now the initials of the company’s founder are placed on quite unusual parts of watches, for instance on crown.
Together with stainless steel watches, the new Sotirio Bvlgari comprises watches that are made out of precious metals. For instance, one of the models was released in limited edition of 125 pieces. The watches are made out of white, yellow and rose gold.
Assioma D, one more great collection from Bvlgari begins with little stainless steel watches. Of course, it ends with gold watches decorated with diamonds.
Together with Bvlgari many other brands focused their attention on production of stainless steel watches. For instance, many jewelry watches Tiffany & Co whose watch department became a part of Swatch Group, are also made out of stainless steel and decorated with white diamonds.
Glashutte original also released its women’s models (for instance, Serenade) with stainless steel cases and bracelets, with or without white diamonds.
De Grisogono offered many models from Instrumentino lineup in stainless steel cases. Chopard also has some stainless steel models. Among them there is famous Happy Diamonds collection.
Even watch department Chanel that positions its watches as masterpieces of the art of jewelry dared release stainless steel versions of Premier. In order not to lose their reputation of a prestigious brand Chanel decorates its watches with diamonds and ceramics and equips them with satin straps.
The new line Dior – La Mini D with rounded case and 19 mm diameter also starts with stainless steel models (ceramics and little diamonds are the features that make these watches luxurious).
Even Zenith dared release stainless steel watches (Chronomaster Collection). Tag Heuer made stainless steel as important as titan.
